Recent quotes and testimonials
"Sinfonia Tamesa were an absolute pleasure to work with on 'A League of
Their Own' on Sky One. Not only did they deal with everything we threw at them, they exceeded all our expectations and contributed to making the show an absolute success. I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone in the future." Matt Wilkinson, Producer - 'A League Of Their Own'. November 2011.
"I was carried along throughout by the orchestra’s range of colour and Tom Hammond’s ability to shape the large-scale architecture of the piece...The second movement started with another superb horn solo but was dominated by some excellent string playing in the climactic repetition of the central tune. The third movement...was competently handled, with the tricky cross-rhythms all safely negotiated – leaving only the restlessly energetic finale, a workout for the strings but the opportunity for some thrilling brass playing. Congratulations must go to all involved in a terrific evening of music." Bernard Hughes. October 2011.
"It was an enormous pleasure to work with Sinfonia Tamesa. They are a marvellous group of enthusiastic players who approach everything they are doing in a wonderfully professional manner!" Julian Lloyd Webber. April 2011.
"Every piece I write is a hugely emotional and personal experience for me, and none more so than ‘The River Cam’. I was invited to write it by Julian Lloyd Webber to celebrate his 60th birthday, and the very first read through with Julian was played by the wonderful Sinfonia Tamesa prior to the premiere with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Huge thanks and respect to Sinfonia Tamesa." Eric Whitacre, Composer. April 2011.
About our performance of Arnold Symphony No. 8 on 3 July 2010:
“it made an overhwelming impression on a packed house. Matthew Taylor drew the best from his players and they delivered the music without pulling any punches – this was music making in the raw, with huge climaxes and the most delicate moments of reflexion.” Bob Briggs, Music Web International.
"I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to each and every member of Sinfonia Tamesa for a wonderful concert experience on Saturday. The dedication and focus of all the players and the support and skilled guidance from conductor, Tom Hammond made the performance a true pleasure from beginning to end. The energetic approach and innovative programming by the orchestra make it one of the best of its kind in London. I wish you all the very best in your pursuit of excellence" Simon Callaghan, Pianist.
"I have heard many stodgy performances of Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture. This one was a delight. The opening was light and springy, with invigorating bounce from the violins and cellos. A vigorous body of students was present. Youths were drinking, merrymaking and singing. For once, the climax – the massed rendition of the “Gaudeamus Igitur” – sounded full-throated, raucous and unashamedly tipsy. During the first performance, the academics at the University of Breslau were “blown away by the cheekiness of the subject matter”. In this performance, I could see why." Kenneth Carter, Classical Source.
"This is a fine orchestra – youthful and enthusiastic, with a handful of veterans – playing heartily and capably under a fine conductor." Kenneth Carter, Classical Source.
